On any given night at La Spiaggia, you will run into at least one of the Lombardo family... Nick, wife Teresa and eldest son Maurizio. Nick and Teresa emigrated to Sydney from the Siderno region of Calabria, southern Italy, in the 1970s. They have owned and operated more than a dozen restaurants around Sydneytown before settling in Coogee in 1993. Both are seasoned experts in Italian food. The La Spiaggia menu is dotted with homemade Lombardo favourites, some made in the restaurant, others in Teresa's kitchen.
The overwhelming welcome that customers receive at La Spiaggia is because of them… everyone is family. Maurizio is the Lombardo eldest son, and the day-to-day face of La Spiaggia. He manages the staff, menus, wine lists and bookings, and is likely the man you'll run into both on the phone and at the door. He is a modern restaurateur with a strong respect for his Calabrian roots, a true student of Italian cookery. He is married to racing author Jessica Owers, and they have a son, Julien, and daughter, Charlotte.
