On any given night at La Spiaggia, you will run into at least one of the Lombardo family... Nick, wife Teresa and eldest son Maurizio. Nick and Teresa emigrated to Sydney from the Siderno region of Calabria, southern Italy, in the 1970s. They have owned and operated more than a dozen restaurants around Sydneytown before settling in Coogee in 1997, taking over La Spiaggia from Nick’s sister, Maria Ianizzi, and her husband Gerardo, who established La Spiaggia in 1993.

Nick and Teresa are seasoned experts in Italian food. Maurizio is their eldest son and the day-to-day face of La Spiaggia. He manages the staff, menus, wine lists and bookings, and is likely the man you'll run into both on the phone and at the door. He is a modern restaurateur with a strong respect for his Calabrian roots, a true student of Italian cookery. He is a father to young Julien and Charlotte.

Modern, family Italian is one of the simplest, most enjoyable cuisines the world over, and La Spiaggia is loyal to this ethos. With many of Italy's most famous exports on our menu (lasagne, bolognese, pizza), we customise with our woodfire oven and by hand-making most of our pastas, and we source the best possible ingredient for all dishes, whether that be local Australian or imported Italian.

The La Spiaggia wine list features around 60 labels, from the humble house varieties to the more expensive bottles. We source from Australian, New Zealand, Italian and French vineyards, and stock a full beer, spirit, cocktail and soft-drink menu.
